Magic Johnson says Lonzo Ball has the best basketball IQ of any level guard

Because the 2021 NBA commerce deadline shortly approaches, the New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly in discussions to deal guard Lonzo Ball, who’s in line for a large payday this offseason. Based on Bleacher Report, Chicago’s Lauri Markkanen and Denver’s Bol Bol have been included in talks with the Bulls and Nuggets, respectively.

Throughout Tuesday’s episode of First Tackle ESPN, Magic Johnson proposed a deal that will ship Lonzo Ball to the New York Knicks, and likewise gave Ball the best praise about his basketball IQ.

Johnson, who was the president of basketball operations for the Lakers when Ball was drafted second general by Los Angeles, says that no level guard within the NBA has the next basketball IQ than Lonzo.

Magic Johnson: “I’m going to let you know this: there’s no guard on this league. level guard, whose basketball IQ is increased than Lonzo Ball. The IQ of Lonzo Ball is off the charts.”

Stephen A. Smith protested, and ceded that whereas Johnson most likely is aware of what he’s speaking about, he has different considerations about Ball’s sport.

Stephen A. Smith: “I’m not going to query the IQ. I do know Lonzo is wise, I do know that he’s a pure level guard. My query is… after I’m questioning your assertiveness, your aggression, and your shot, I don’t want you at Madison Sq. Backyard.”

Co-host Max Kellerman rightly questioned by Smith was calling out Ball’s capturing numbers, as Ball has steadily improved in that space, and is capturing 38.5 p.c from past the arc and making three 3-pointers per sport this season.

Smith later doubled down on his tackle Twitter.
